Bug Description

Binary package hint: thunderbird

Thunderbird seems to have lost its IMAP folders and will not let me re-type the path in the Account settings. Since the path uses "dot" folders, they are invisible when I try to browse to the folder even though I have enabled the viewing of hidden files on the system. This serious limitation appears to be a design bug or at least the ability to type or paste in the path needs to be added.

Thunderbird version 2.0.0.22 (20090608)

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
Dependencies:

DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
Package: mozilla-thunderbird None [modified: /var/lib/dpkg/info/mozilla-thunderbird.list]
PackageArchitecture: all
ProcEnviron:
 PATH=(custom, no user)
 LANG=en_US.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: thunderbird
Uname: Linux 2.6.28-13-generic i686
UnreportableReason: This is not a genuine Ubuntu package

Is this still an issue for you?

I don't understand your report:
1) If you don't see a directory, even with "display hidden files", maybe you deleted it?
2) You can paste the path to the local directory of a mail account: under "Server settings" -> "Local directory"

The problem is still there but I found a workaround that was somewhat difficult to find. Even knowing it's there, I couldn't find it just now for you. "Browse" cannot find dot folders and that is the most obvious way of locating it.

No, I didn't delete it as it shows properly when I look at the file system. However, it was invisible in Thunderbird's Local directory Server setting.

Here's Thunderbird local directory browse dialoglooking at hidden .dot folders.

What are you talking about?

It will indeed show the dot folders IF it is already in one, which is the way it sets up a new account. However, when trying to browse to one manually where the setting has gotten lost, it does NOT show any dot folders. It shows everything else but no folders that begin with a dot. I am not sure how to be clearer than that.

Hi Don,
Thank you for having taken the time to report a problem with Ubuntu and Thunderbird. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner.

You made this bug report in 2009 regarding Thunderbird and there have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time. Your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates.

Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the ticket?

Or, if it still might be a problem, it would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running only once:
apport-collect 394158

and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

This is too old to even matter anymore.
