Now i know how to reproduce it.
1. create new pop account. set it to leave messages on the server until i delete them.
2. download entire mailbox.
3. Fill all free space at your home mount point to 100% (probably copy several films or something.) Copy program should give you error message about "no free space left"
4. Send yourself new letter to account above.
5. Wait until thunderbird automatically checks mailbox.
6. Voila! Thunderbird again downloading your entire mailbox.
