Bug Description

Look at the screenshot attached, sorry for some Russian text. The image is png, approx. 400 kb.

The fonts in Thunderbird from the Ubuntu repos (on the left) look ugly, thunderbird, which i downloaded from the official site (on the right) looks much more pretty. The version is the same (2.0.0.12), the font settings are shared (also the same). How do i make the repo version look as good as the tar.bz2 one from the site?

And also, if i am looking through RSS feeds in thunderbird, the repo one shows ugly fonts in the webpages, like Firefox in Ubuntu, but the tar.bz2 one shows beautiful fonts like in Opera.

I think i figured out the way to solve it. Change the hinting options from middle to low for example in the Preferences-Appearance-Fonts-Advanced. This also makes the fonts in Firefox look a lot better!

font rendering for non latin fonts was improved considerably; also tbird 3 uses the same rendering engine as ffox 3.5 - which has more improvements to font rendering as we use cairo.
