My wife sent the message using Microsoft Office Outlook 12.0, which sounds
very much like bug 301541.
It was a PDF attachment (sounds like bug 352581)

The attachment is NOT corrupt on the IMAP server.
The copy downloaded by TB on my MAC is corrupt.
