The gnome attach file dialog doesn't allow attaching of network files.

To clarify: I meant files on the network. Like on smb:// and others.

I have the same issue on intrepid . thunderbird-gnome-support is installed as well, which is supposed to allow save/attach from network shares using vfs, correct?

Thunderbird version is 2.0.0.19 (20090105)
Intrepid i386.

Would love to get this fixed, as I have been reduced to creating a folder called ~/email_shelf as a place to put files that are going to/from network drives and thunderbird.

Oh BTW, firefox has the same issue for me in case that helps us identify where the problem lies. firefox-gnome-support is also installed, to no apparent effect with regard to saving/opening from network drives.

Bug #105088 is the only one with Importance assessed: Medium. It's also the oldest: more than two years.

I can report that the same behavior of thunderbird can be observed in openSUSE 11.1. This is not an Ubuntu-only bug.
