Bug Description

Running the thunderbird snap from latest/beta: 108.0b1-1 (277)
The thunderbird snap is running on a 22.10 host that is up to date.

When I go to edit the identity associated to an account, the fields I expect (server name, port, authentication) are missing and I see an empty window (see attachments).

When I launch thunderbird from the cli, I see these logs when it launches and no other logs added when I open the Manage Identities -> Edit window.

heather@fenrir:~$ snap run thunderbird
Gtk-Message: 13:41:09.447: Not loading module "atk-bridge": The functionality is provided by GTK natively. Please try to not load it.

If you go to the Account Settings in thunderbird, click Manage Identities (this screenshot).. then you see a list of your identities tied to that account. When I click Edit for any of them, I see the blank window (attached in description).

Worth noting that I refreshed my snap to stable (102.5.0-2). When I launched it on the cli, it gave me a window saying my profile was no longer compatible with this older 102 version of thunderbird. Still though, when I launched it, I see:

heather@fenrir:~$ sudo snap refresh thunderbird --stable
thunderbird 102.5.0-2 from Canonical✓ refreshed

heather@fenrir:~$ snap run thunderbird

The difference from the 108 version is that the 108 version has:

[GFX1-]: glxtest: VA-API test failed: missing or old libva-drm library.

whereas the 102 version does not. Perhaps this is the issue.

I also tested the thunderbird deb in the kinetic archive, version 102.4.2+build2-0ubuntu0.22.10.1, on the same host. The same window has the expected content (see attachment).

I can observe the regression in a kinetic VM with the beta snap. The stable snap isn't affected, so that's a recent regression.

TB Identities window brocken.jpeg

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.13; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/109.0

Steps to reproduce:

1. Start with a fresh new profile
2. Setup an email account
3. Open Account preferences
4. Click on Manage identities button
5. Add an identity

Actual results:

Empty window, with just Cancel and OK buttons

Expected results:

The window should have all fields and sub tabs

Today daily and TB beta 8 are impacted

This is really annoying, because on an existing profile, any configuration you made can't be changed but is applied (signature, answering identity, OpenPGP, SMTP, ...)

On my Ubuntu 22.10 system, I see this too on the thunderbird beta snap, version 108.0b2-1.

The issue *does not* happen on the thunderbird deb (102.4.2+build2-0ubuntu0.22.10.1) provided in the Ubuntu archive, nor in the stable snap (v102.5.0-2). So on thunderbird 102 the identity panel is populated with the expected fields.

FWIW I tried an older version of the snap, 107.0b4-1, and editing an identity looke normal, with the expected stuff on the panel.

I'm not seeing this with beta on mac 12.4. But not a new profile. Is a new profile absolutely necessary step?

The new profile step isn't necessary no, it does the same on an existing profile. There is no warning/error on stderr not the in debug console

I use macOS 10.13.6 (I already had verified bugs, Theme for example, that do not occur with older macOS versions)
I had the issue on my usual profile and checked that I have it with a new profile (that is the case) to take apart a personal setting or profile corruption.

Alice, can you give us a regression window?
