Bug Description

Hi,

although Ubuntu/Lubuntu 20.04 is just 3 months old, thunderbird is that outdated that when I try to submit an upstream bug report to mozilla they're asking back "Are you sure you're still using version 68?" and hesitate to accept the bug report.

While the 68.x series isn't the current series (78.x is), it is still officially supported, with point releases for security fixes. We are working on updating thunderbird to the 78.x series in Ubuntu, and it will be backported to 20.04 in due course.

It is fair to assume that unless it's a critical vulnerability, upstream developers won't be very interested in addressing bugs in 68.x, given that their focus is on 78.x. It wouldn't be fair to plainly reject a bug report on this basis, though.

It's a weird reply from upstream knowing their own website [1] states

'Thunderbird version 78.1.0 is only offered as direct download from thunderbird.net and not as an upgrade from Thunderbird version 68 or earlier.
...
At this time, users of the Enigmail Add-on should not update to Thunderbird 78.
