Bug Description

As can be seen in the screenshots posted by another user at
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1028674/my-thunderbird-version-on-18-04-have-emoji-bug

(and in the attached simpler screenshot)

I also have this problem.

They seem to be 8-10× the size of normal text and cause lots of weird problems with the UI as it redraws.
