Bug Description

Under Thunderbird 52.6.0/Ubuntu 18.04 latest beta, when I connect to an IMAP server running Dovecot dovecot-1.0.7-9.el5_11.4 the compact command is missing from the individual folder menus. Works fine when I connect to Gmail's IMAP server.

Thunderbird 52.7.0 under Ubuntu 14.04 does not have this issue. I notice that the version of Thunderbird under 18.04 is actually older than the version under 14.04.

I sugguest an update to a more recent and stable release of Thunderbird before the final release date.

Thank You,

I noticed that Thunderbird was upgraded to 52.7 in the 18.04 release, but for some reason the problem still exists (compact folder missing from the folder menu) and still works consistantly for me under Ubuntu 14.04. I'm not sure why. I'm planning to upgrade my IMAP server and hoping that will resolve the issue.

Hello Nataraj,
Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with compacting folders in Thunderbird. You made this bug report some time ago and Ubuntu and Thunderbird have been updated since then.

Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the ticket?
If it is still a problem, are you still interested in finding a solution to this bug?
If you are, could you run the following (only once):
apport-collect BUGNUMBER
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu and Thunderbird better.

Yes, this is still a problem for me and I can confirm that the same version under ubuntu 14.04 works correctly, so this is likely related to the build options used under 18.04, unless there is a library issue.

ii thunderbird 1:52.9.1+build3-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 amd64 Email, RSS and newsgroup client with integrated spam filter

Under 14.04 which works:

I was sent a message asking if this bug still existed. I responded that it did, yet the bug report was changed to expired. How can this bug be reopened? Why was it previously in an incomplete state. I believe that I provided all of the requested information.. Am I suppose to change the status to something else?

Thank You.

My apologies, Nataraj. That was my mistake, leaving it at incomplete status when you had replied.
Thanks, Paul, for changing the status back to new.

Hi Nataraj,
For the ease of the programmers, I will add a summery here to complete the bug report. Please feel free to add any corrections.
Also, do you mind if I update the title of the bug report to:
“thunderbird 52.9.1/18.04 compact folder broken for IMAP Dovecot”

Ubuntu version: Ubuntu 18.04
thunderbird 1:52.9.1+build3-0ubuntu0.18.04.1
Problem is reproducable by the reporter.

Steps to reproduce:
1. In Ubuntu 18.04
2. In Thunderbird, in account connected to an IMAP server running Dovecot
2. right click on one folder in the folder list
3. no option available to compact the folder

4. In Ubuntu 14.04
5. In Thunderbird, in account connected to an IMAP server running Dovecot
6. right click on one folder in the folder list
7. compact folder option is available

Actual behaviour: compact folder option missing in Ubuntu 18.04 in same version of Thunderbird.

Expected behaviour: compact folder option should be available for folders.

Additional notes:
Only occurs with an IMAP server running Dovecot. Issue not evident on Gmail IMAP.
