Bug Description

Binary package hint: thunderbird

I haven't programmed anything on a computer for the past 15 years so I apologize for being so rusty that I can't give more detailed information.

First, Thunderbird crashed as soon as I opened it after installing it, shortly after installing Gutsy Beta. (Thunderbird was set to collect mail on startup (as it had been when I had previously used it successfully in Feisty). On checking root I found that Thunderbird had been installed in an entirely separate directory 'thunderbird_05.trash'. I tried removing the directory and reinstalling Thunderbird and this time was successful.

Thunderbird ran correctly five times then crashed again. I tried all my email accounts in KMail and everything ran correctly, so I didn't think it could be caused by my internet connection settings or firewall (hardware).

I entered information into the Lightning extension, without first accessing mail, successfully. I tried a contact and that seemed to work OK. As soon as Thunderbird attempted to download mail again, it crashed.

The present crash report occurred after logging into Gutsy, following a shutdown. Thunderbird was not loading this time.

Hope you can make sense of this.

Same problem here, I tried deleting the training file, but no chance.

Happened to me today too, after the big update this morning. Not sure if Thunderbird was in the list of updates or not.

It seems to be a thunderbird problem as I had the same problems with the mozilla.com version. I'm now with 1.5 and have no problems.

In my oppinion, this problem only occures if there is a huge amount of incoming mails (ap. > 50).

Need the devs / maintainers more details / information?

@Matthew: Thunderbird got updated yesterday, but the changelog only tells about dependencies.

Do you (Roger, Matthew) use the Tango Icons theme?

I am, and if you are too, then this is most probably a duplicate of #119836.

I do not use the tango icons, so I don't think it's related.

I'm using the Tango-Theme and every time when Mail is received (either on startup or while TB is running) TB crashes.

Don't know if this will help the apport file may tell you something, I copied my .mozilla-thunderbird file into 7.10 from 7.04 so that may have compounded the problems - the version shown in 'about' is 2.0.0.6 - should read 2.0.0.8?

I fixed the problems by deactivating and deinstallting the nice Tango
Icon Theme for Thunderbird. With the default theme it works.
