Bug Description

Hi there

When achiving large numbers of messages from my Inbox, Thunderbird leaves the context menu on-screen as an artifact. It's very annoying because thunderbird won't respond, but the context menu still stays in front of other windows when I switch to another program, eg LibreOffice as shown in the attached screenshot.

Perhaps this is a problem with Unity (I am using Unity 2D here), but more likely I think it is a problem with Mozilla running this archive operation in an inefficient 'foreground' way, when really it should be a nicely backgrounded task (eg using the Activity Manager).

Cheers
JP

John,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some time ago and there have been many changes in Ubuntu and Thunderbird since that time. Your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates.

Do you still see a problem related to the one that you reported in a currently supported version of Ubuntu? If so, please run once in a terminal:

apport-collect 1387439

and then change the status of the bug back to "New".

Please add any additional information that you think might be relevant. Alternatively, please confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the bug report. If we do not hear from you this bug report will expire in approximately 60 days time.

Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu better.

@paulw2u: done. I have run 'apport-collect' and set status to new.

Thanks for confirming this still an issue with the latest Thunderbird release in Ubuntu 18.04.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/archived-messages recommends not archiving more that 2000 messages at a time but doesn't say what might happen if you do. This issue is worth reporting upstream to Mozilla (I haven't found anything relevant there yet). Your original report just said "large numbers of messages". Approximately how many?
