Ubuntu's Thunderbird used to support reading and writing contacts from the Evolution address book, presumably though the Thunderbird EDS Contacts extension <https://launchpad.net/thunderbird-eds-extension>. In trusty, this extension appears to be missing, and the contacts in my Evolution address book (which is my primary address book) are no longer accessible in Thunderbird.
I really liked this extension, as I enjoy having a centralized address book on my desktop. I also used the Evolution address book with syncevolution (for my N900), gnome-shell (via gnome-contacts), and empathy.
