.wav files won't play when new email arrives in Thunderbird

Bug Description

Edit > Preferences > General > Use the following sound file

Whatever file is chosen, it never plays when a new email arrives. If I press PLAY in the Tbird dialog box, then the file does play. But it doens't play when new email arrives.
