Bug Description

This bug is filed against Thunderbird per Chris Coulson request on bug #1043313

It may also supersede / be related to bug #1043308

It may or may not be related to bug #1040259

It has 2 aspects :

1/ Message indicator shows nothing after update from Precise -> Quantal Alpha 3, plus all latest updates applied (2012/08/29 - 20:06 UTC+2).

1a/ Thunderbird doesn't appear at all in Message Indicator
1b/ Gwibber doesn't appear at all in Message Indicator

2/ Unread messages count in Thunderbird Unity Launcher Icon is wrong :

2a/ At first message reception in Thunderbird, the launcher icon displays the number of unread messages
2b/ It then seems to stay stuck forever : reading messages or receiving further ones doesn't change the count displayed in the icon anymore.

Hi,

Thanks for that. So, we've ruled out you having an old version of the messaging indicator addon installed in your profile.

Can you tell me if libmessaging-menu0 is installed? (you can check by running "apt-cache policy libmessaging-menu0"). If it is, could you please do the following:

- In Thunderbird, open the preferences dialog (Edit -> Preferences)
- In the preferences dialog, go to the "Advanced" pane, select the "General" tab and press the "Config Editor..." button
- In the config editor, please create the following preferences:
1) A boolean preference called "extensions.messagingmenu.logging.enabled" and set to true
2) A string preference called "extensions.messagingmenu.logging.domains" and set to "all".
3) A boolean preference called "dom.report_all_js_exceptions" and set to true.
- Restart thunderbird from a terminal and paste the output.
- Also please open the error console "Tools -> Error Console" and paste any errors or warnings here

You'll want to remove those preferences afterwards, else thunderbird will fill your .xsession-errors

Hi Chris,

As a site note, I have 2 laptops affected by the exact same problem : Both upgraded from Precise to Quantal Alpha 3, both having the same message indicator issue :

- Indicator Empty (No Thunderbird, no Gwibber)
- New messages received in Thunderbird do give a pop-up telling about them
- Unread messages number in Unity laucher updates once, then stays static

Performing your requested tests, I can tell that libmessaging-menu0 is NOT repeat NOT installed on any of my 2 machines.

Should I install it ?

Installing libmessaging-menu0 caused my message indicator icon to populate as soon as I restarted Thunderbird afterwards, on both of my 2 machines.

So this issue could simply be a missing library dependancy after dist upgrade ?

The message indicator now works and lists incoming mail OK, but it doesn't turn blue as it used to...?
