Bug Description

System: Ubuntu 11.10 with both gnome desktop and xfce desktop installed, fully updated

Start the system as Xubuntu, with the xfce desktop

When I click a file in the Thunar file browser, then press and hold the control (ctrl) key and drag the file, Thunar fails to make a copy of the file.

As a work-around, Copy + Paste the file does work, but this is registered by the clipboard and destroys any other workflow which depends on the information held by the clipboard.

Its not possible to copy files using drag and drop (holding Ctrl) within a folder, copying using Ctr+C, Ctrl+V is ok though so i dont see any reason do not be able to do this using drag and drop.

Are you sure you can create a copy with drag and drop with ctrl within the same folder ?
I cant with my 1.0.1.

Ah! I missed the mention about the _same_ directory.

Yes, I can reproduce that too, when you are DND over a folder you can type Ctrl/Ctrl+Shift/Shift to change the action to copy/create shortcut/move but this doesn't work when the mouse is over the white space (background) of the current directory.

Hi,

Thanks for your bug report.
Dragging a file and then pressing ctrl (copy, you'll see a + on the icon) or ctrl+maj (link) works fine here. Are you trying to make a copy of the file into the same folder?

Dear Lionel

Well-spotted: The behaviour as described does indeed concern making a copy of a file within the same folder. I should have mentioned this above. Within the same folder, dragging and pressing Ctrl to copy a file is simply ignored by Thunar. Just to be on the safe side, I have tested both dragging and then pressing and holding Ctrl, and first pressing and holding Ctrl and then dragging. It shouldn't make a difference, but neither works.

What happens with Thunar 1.5.1 is that copying by drag and drop into a folder is possible but after that the mouse keeps flickering and turns to the "wait" wheel.

Don't see why this would be simpler than ctrl+c, ctrl+v. Closing.
