2008-11-06 03:53:34 Charlie Kravetz thunar: statusexplanation Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work, I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here. Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better! Please do not open another upstream report about this bug. That will only create a duplicate report. On the other hand, please do add your comments to the upstream report you listed above. Bug #163587 happens when two thunar windows are opened, instead of one. I have linked the upstream report to this bug report so that we will have the updates to it available. It is still an open report.
2008-11-06 03:54:38 Charlie Kravetz description Binary package hint: thunar Hello to the Thunar dev team! I've been using Xubuntu, formerly 32-Bit 7.04 and 7.10, along with Thunar for well a year by now - currently it's 8.04 X64 - and have had good results with this distribution so far. But the grieveous bug of regular Thunar freezes has occured from the day I started to use Xubuntu - on a completely different hardware. About a year ago, I've already posted a bugreport about this problem and saw bugreports similar to mine. It's only by today, that I've learned how to reproduce this: http://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2502 The following link is most likely the same category: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-bots/+bug/122146 Maybe also relevant: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunar/+bug/163587 The descriptions match exactly, my Thunar freezes (only with active tree view) as soon as I've pressed CTRL-H two times. Every time. It was long unclear, how it would even, but crashes have been occuring on a regular basis, sometimes up to over 15 times a day. I don't know what's the cause of this, a buggy XFCE desktop or bugs in Thunar, but it's seriously interfering all day work. As the mentioned bugreports (and my personal experience) suggest, this has been an issue since 2006. For efficient work, a tree view is vital, but it's too unstable to use this mode. So please, someone of you dev's gotta contact the XFCE dev team and get this nasty thing finally sorted. I'm also gonna send a bugreport at XFCE's, to also draw their attention to the problem. Thank you! peroo Binary package hint: thunar Hello to the Thunar dev team! Thank you! peroo TEST CASE: how to freeze Thunar: 1) Open Thunar by clicking Places->Ubuntu 2) Enable the Tree view (View->Side Pane->Tree) 3) Select "Show hidden files" from the view menu 4) Double click all the way into: .gconf/apps/gnome-screensaver 5) Disable "Show hidden files" 6) Click .gconf in the tree view 7) Try to click apps At this point Thunar will be frozen. If not continue on from step #7 by clicking different subfolders of .gconf and then folders in the tree. The continuous freezes while attempting to use Thunar with tree view are extremely disruptive. It does make working very difficult. Hardy 8.04 contains Thunar version 0.9.0-4ubuntu2 Intrepid 8.10 contains Thunar version 0.9.0-10ubuntu1 Please update Thunar to version 1.0.0-1ubuntu3 which contains the fix for this issue.
