Bug Description

When I attempt to unmount my external Seagate HD I get an "unknown error" and two new windows open up displaying the contents of the drive. Also when I initially plug in the drive, it opens two windows rather than one. The same thing happened with the live cd when I attempted to unmount partitions with gparted. I would get a mess of windows, two per partition, and the partitions would not unmount. I had to use the standard Ubuntu live cd to repartition the drives. I imagine this has something to do with Thunar's volume management, but I don't know how to troubleshoot this. This doesn't happen on my USB thumb drive for some reason. As a result, I have to simply unplug the drive even though it is mounted.

I don't know how to insert links, but this seems to be somewhat related to bug # 107259 which deals with the issue of new partitions constantly automounting way back in fiesty, which interfered with the installation process.

I found the fix. Apparently, there are two mechanisms activated by default in xubuntu to automount volumes. The gnome mount program (the name escapes me) and Thunar's built in Volman plugin. I solved this issue by disabling Thunar's volume management in the program's settings. This is a very easily fixable, but very irritiating bug. I do hope that someone can alert the Xubuntu team to it so it can be fixed. The issue is present on the liveCD as well as the default installation. an alternate solution, but one I haven't tested, would be to remove or disable the gnome program.
