thunar not sending files to trash, instead deleting them

Bug Description

/usr/bin/gvfs-trash exists and is executable.
${HOME}/.local/share/Trash is owned by user and primary group of user. Permissions are 0700.

"gio trash <file>" works ok

environment variable "ELECTRON_TRASH" is set to "gio".

Does ~/.xsession-errors contain any related messages? Furthermore, is this issue present when using a new user account?
