Linux Mint xfce 17 (sarah )
Thunar 1.6.10

  I am running from the console a script file that stores a lot of information (several hundred MB) in several files. If I open thunar and try to see the folder where those files are, thunar gets blocked and the system load reaches almost 100%

Did installing the thunar update (version 1.6.11-0ubuntu0.16.04.2) fix the problem for you?
