Same problem on 100% opensource, amd64 (using Intel Core i7), system, no special thing modified on thunar. I was only closing window some minutes after unmounting a MTP connected Samsung phone.

Xubuntu, now ubuntu Studio ghave same problems, Can't even remove and replace Thunar with different fmgr cause thunar is mandatory with xfce. Tried Lubuntu but has no propor touchpad configs so got fed up there too, Unity and gnome are awkward on non touch screens,
Please fix this, Problem has existed many weeks and I hate to switch OS again.
There is an error at boot screen too I dunno if related.
ERROR: DRM intel_pipe_config expect '0' got '2' or something similar I only write this down from memory as I can't pause, cut, and paste the boot screen. This error began same time as Thunar began screw up.

This happened to me after closing Thunar and before that I was navigating some network shares with it.

It seems to happen occasinally when I click the eject icon on a flash drive (FAT32) from Thunar's "Devices" sidepane after writing to the drive. It doesn't stop the drive from ejecting (according to the notification). Not a show stopper, as it only crashes Thunar and doesn't prevent the user from reopening the file manager and continuing on with their lives. The system doesn't seem any less stable after the crash either, though this is just my anecdotal evidence.

Looking in /var/log/syslog, I found a relevant bit:
