Bug Description

It's a bit hard to reproduce, as it happens inconsistently, but every now and then, after booting up Xubuntu 12.10, gvfs mounts such as the Trash and Network items do not show up in Thunar's side pane. However, in those cases the Trash icon is visible and accessible from the desktop, so gvfs itself does seem to start.

~/.xsession-errors doesn't show anything relevant. Killing Thunar --daemon and restarting it with xfce4-appfinder seems to get it working again. Perhaps it's a race condition?

For me on quantal 32bits network and trash icons are never shown in thunar
The only solution is to kill the thunar daemon as it's said in this bug report and then it's ok

I'm not sure. Maybe in your cases Thunar is started before some gvfs daemons have been initialized, so the check to verify that trash:// and network:// are supported fails...

summary: - gvfs mounts don't show up occasionally

when the icons are missing, pasting trash:// or network:// into the address bar works fine. So the daemons are running.

confirmed on my clean install of 12.10 x64 on both desktop pc and laptop

This is now happening on my 64-bit Xubuntu 12.10 installation consistently. After logging in, Thunar will not show the Network and Trash icons in the left pane. Killing the process and restarting Thunar will cause the icons to display properly.
