Bug Description

Binary package hint: texlive-base

Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid lynx) does not provide REVTeX4 support although it is stated that the support is provided as a part of the tetex-extra package.

Ubuntu 10.04 provides only the VERY OBSOLETE REVTeX support. If you type the string revtex in synaptic, you will really read that REVTeX is obsolete and that you should use REVTeX4 instead and that that latter one is provided by the tetex-extra package.

The truth is that there is no tetex-extra available for ubuntu 10.04. Even worse, REVTeX 4 is not provided by any other package available for ubuntu 10.04.

[REVTeX 4 is a widely used publishing standard among physicists created by the American Physical Society. Very recently it used to be provided by various linux distributions (including older ubuntu releases) but it somehow disappeared from ubuntu 10.04.]

I can see that my just-submitted bug report contains the statement
"Binary package hint: texlive-base".
I guess that this hint may not be correct. I reported the bug for metapackage texlive-full.

Unfortunately, there is no other way at the moment but installing manually revtex4-1. But be aware that this will also lead to a couple of bugs that have remained unfixed for one year, \affiliation and natbib package. Only a manual update of both revtex4-1 AND natbib fixes the problem as far as you use \documentclass[...]{revtex4-1} command.
