Bug Description

Binary package hint: texlive-latex-base

When trying to execute latex on the file located in a CIFS share the following error message appears:

"! I can't find file `file.tex'"

where file.tex is obviously present. See also the following post: http://<email address hidden>/msg05258.html.

This bug might be related to this other bug:

Tested in Ubuntu Karmic

I have the same problem. It happens on a CIFS share, after a recent Ubuntu kernel upgrade.

I also noticed, if I run xdvi on a file existing in the current directory

xdvi example.dvi

it will say

"xvdi.bin: Fatal error: example.dvi: Is a directory."

but "example.dvi" is a file.

Confirmed: Multiple people affected

Although IMHO it's unlikely to be texlive's fault.

I had forgotten about this problem. I've found the solution indirectly ... I don't remember where.
The problem was solved mounting the share with this *fstab* line:

<SHARE NETWORK PATH> <MOUNT PATH> cifs users,noauto,username=<USERNAME>,nobrl,noserverino 0 0

I think the problem was solved since the inclusion the parameters *nobrl* and *noserverino*, but I'm not sure.
