Bug Description

Page size for the region set through libpaper to letter does not seem to affect utilities like dvips and xdvi. Is it possbile for these tools to be configured automatically on install to match the region's generally used paper size?

I'm going to go ahead and mark this bug Rejected. Debian isn't going to fix it and tetex has been abandonded. If this is still a problem in texlive-base and it's important to you please file a bug in texlive-base and we can wishlist it for you.

I think it is still a problem for texlive. The Debian maintainer says
in the bug report that a patch is always welcome, I think we can say the
same thing to Ubuntu users.

Yes we have some ideas how to implement a scheme that could work out.
But nobody could do the necessary programming due to other time
constraints, so for now, no. Later, hopefully.

Best wishes
