I just updated my ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 LTS

SOLVED!!!!
I've got it. When I install TexLive 2011 which are not in offical source, I add two stupid line in the /etc/environment, which cause the problem for months when I "apt-get" occasionlly:

sudo mkdir -r /usr/share/font/Winfont
sudo mkdir -r /usr/share/font/Adobefont

Now I delete the stupid lines, and it works fine finally.

The simlilar "install-info" bugs may easiy be causeed by user's modify in configure files, So when users are going to modify a configure files, the system should be automatically record what configure has changed. Thus, the system can be robust enough and change it to the original version configuration when it does not work fine afer users' modifying. I am a chinese user, users like me modifying the configuration via "sudo" will cause problems that they don't understand...

ANd how shoud that work? If the user puts
 sudo rm -rf /
into /etc/environment, then how should the system recover?

Then *WHY* are you doing it if you do not UNDERSTAND it????

I am closing this bug report since you commented that the issue is solved, we are seeing bugs with syntax errors because of the /etc/environment file
