Ubuntu 9.10 texlive is "too new" and all texi2pdf/pdflatex, etc. generated pdf-files have the "tilde problem"

Reason is this unfixed bug: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=534458

And it harms all people installing/upgrading to Ubuntu 9.10 and using it for scientific writing...
