Bug Description

I've had this problem going on for a while (20.10 and 20.04) but:

using 21.04-latest, whenever I use ALT+CTRL+T there is a terminator window that opens but it's never set as selected/over the other windows. It's always hiding behind other windows.

I am not sure if it's because it's terminator or because I am using 2x screens in reverse portrait mode?

What do you have for:

$ gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences focus-new-windows

If the value is 'strict', new windows or terminals do not take the top focus when made available.

If you really run Ubuntu MATE, then

gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences focus-new-windows
'smart'

will not work. Use different configuration schema - like org.mate.Marco.general .

I am not sure why you are doubting that I run Ubuntu MATE but ok:

1. I have been running Ubuntu MATE since a few years now (Since 2015);
2. This system that is exhibiting this error has been updated from 20.04 UP to 20.10 and then again UP to 21.04;
3. I have been having this focus issue on this machine since several full months (Before updating);
4. I have never touched this setting before (And I also do not know where to change it;

Therefore I have no idea what you mean by "Use different configuration scheme".

How do I do that? Which command?
Where is that setting located at? MATE Tweaks?
Since when do I need to do that?

I have tested this feature on another machine (Laptop hooked up on a smart tv via hdmi) but I have never been able to reproduce (Yet Terminator is the default terminal and I never have that many windows opened on that other machine).

So my end-user conclusion is that there is something wrong only on this system (With dual portrait screens and resolution <3)

Cheers!

mate-terminal is the default terminal in Ubuntu MATE. I have tried to reproduce this issue and can not.

no longer affects: ubuntu-mate
