Bug Description
Using tasksel (on intrepid) from the command line I deselected kubuntu-desktop. To my suprise it also ununstalled the ubuntu-desktop related packages. When tasksel was finished, I started it again and *all* tasks where deselected.
This leaves the user without a desktop.

I can confirm this on Intrepid. I installed kubuntu-desktop using apt-get. Then I used tesksel to removed the Kubuntu Desktop task. Upon re-running tasksel, all tasks were uninstalled. See attached for a list of installed packages. This system now does not have a desktop. See attached for a list of installed and de-installed packages on this system.

Very similar bugs, but not setting them as duplicates yet: I'm not sure whether they are real duplicates, as they have different tasksel versions and/or mention different tasks:
bug 150282
bug 131202
bug 141602
In my previous comment I made a typo: 150282 is an entirely different bug. That should have been bug 150252. It is currently triaged and has importance high.
I am marking this bug as a duplicate of bug 150252.

I am trying to confirm this on my Virtualbox running Intrepid. I run 'sudo tasksel' and select Kubuntu Desktop, then hit OK and it starts trying to install. Within a few seconds, tasksel exits with the following error:
xserver-xorg install
tasksel: aptitude failed (100)
I ran 'sudo apt-get update' to verify that my cache was up to date and ran again. Same error. I am currently installing kubuntu-desktop with apt-get.
