Bug Description
The title can be a bit confusing, so let me explain the situation more clearly. I got my BQ device today and proceeded to set up accounts and get it updated. At first I got application updates and no system-image updates. On looking at the version number, I noticed that it was r16. It was last updated on 30-1-2015 according to the about page in the system settings app.
Now while I understand that OTA-3 (r21) is being phased, I would expect my phone to at least be updated to OTA-2 (r20) since OTA-2 is out for everyone.

I finally got the update to r21 at the end of phase and proceeded to update the phone. So I am not sure if `system-image-cli -vv --dry-run` would still be useful. I however backed the entire /var/log directory as recommended by ogra before preceeding to install the update. I have uploaded the client.log from that backup.

Thanks. Unfortunately the log file doesn't help, but I'm glad you got upgraded! system-image 3.0 (not yet available) does have a different phased update algorithm, which might solve the problem you had. I'm going to mark this incomplete but you can always open it again if it happens again.

Hi,
not shure if this is the same bug i'm having but i also got my bq Aquaris (ubuntu ed.) a few days ago and tried updating to r21. In the Update manager it stops after downloading (no progress is shown whilst downloading, but only for the system image, apps were shown correct) and shows a greyed out "Installing..." after about half an hour i went to another app and it never finished (should this work in the background?). Rebooting and trying again didn't solve anything. I'll mark this error as affecting me if u aggree...

I looked into /var/log/
I could however get further than the Errno 13 stated above when trying as superuser ;-). However my phone still doesn't update to the new Version, am i missing something? The command 'system-image-cli -vv --dry-run' worked only via ssh, when i try it in the terminal App it still doesn't work. The two log files are attached. Is this a bug i have to file for the terminal app?
Anyways, I'll mark this as affecting me now, if anyone disagrees, pls tell me what else to do.

Ok, the system update worked now, i don't know whether it was because of the successfull 'system-image-cli -vv --dry-run' via ssh or what did the trick but the problem seems to be solved for me :-), perhabs my logs help identify the problem?

You must run system-image-cli as root if you are going to do an update (even a --dry-run one). You can get --info as non-root.
si 3.0 shouldn't be too far away hopefully. In the meantime, you could try https:/

Try `system-image-cli -vv --dry-run`
You should get some output to the console (and /var/log/ system- image/client. log) which displays the device's current phase, and all the candidate upgrade paths that are available to you, plus the winning path. You can either attach the entire log (perhaps truncated to just the dry-run attempt), or paste the console output.
