hi
i had the same problem in ubuntu 9.10.
a solution was removing all doublicated sections in /etc/samba/smb.conf
i for example had two [global] and [printer] sections (yes this is a machine where more then one person has a sudo)
apperrently the config tool does check for duplicated sections but doesnt handle them very well.
