Bug Description
Binary package hint: system-
If the user selects an auto-detected network printer from the list of auto-detected printers or if he enters the IP address of a network printer manually, it should be checked whether the printer can be accessed vis HPLIP, simply running the command
hp-makeuri <IP address>
If the command leads to a result and the result is only a CUPS URI, this result should be used instead of the URI resulting from the auto-detection of the printer or from the user's selection. This way the user will get access to maintenance functions (ink/toner levels, nozzle cleaning, ...) via the hp-toolbox and also to 4-edge full-bleed support on all page sizes on many inkjet printers.
If the result of hp-makeuri gives also a Fax URI, the user should be asked whether he wants to set up the fax or the printing functionality of his multi-function device. This way there is also an easy way to set up fax queues for network-connected devices.
Without such functionality the user has no chance to set up a network-connected HP printer correctly without leaving the GUI. Following the GUI he would set up the printer without HPLIP and so he will not get full support of all features. And then he will report bugs to us ...
