Bug Description

This is a regression from 13.10. Whenever I run quicksynergy/use/start, I consistently get this in the terminal:

2014-04-24T15:40:17 INFO: Synergy 1.4.12 Client on Linux 3.14.0-031400-generic #201403310035 SMP Mon Mar 31 04:36:23 UTC 2014 x86_64
 /build/buildd/synergy-1.4.12/src/lib/synergy/CClientApp.cpp,164
2014-04-24T15:40:17 DEBUG: XOpenDisplay(":0")
 /build/buildd/synergy-1.4.12/src/lib/platform/CXWindowsScreen.cpp,912
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
  Major opcode of failed request: 53 (X_CreatePixmap)
  Value in failed request: 0x0
  Serial number of failed request: 16
  Current serial number in output stream: 17

The synergy session does not work, no attempt to connect to the server is made.

Actually this bug is trivially reproducible here by saying

$ synergyc --name falx --no-daemon 192.168.1.12

It looks like this bug affects me as well (this is my first bug report in launchpad, if I missed some information, please let me know). I would like to add that it used to work and then after one of ubuntu updates stopped with the following error.

$ uname -a
Linux yku-helix 3.13.0-29-generic #53-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jun 4 21:00:20 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

$ cat /etc/issue
Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

quicksynergy: 0.9-1ubuntu1
synergy: 1.5.0

I should say that after the following update of my ubuntu 14.04 system, everything gets back to normal!

I resolved the issue by installing all *mir* packages -- I noticed in ps -A that Xorg was run with some mir option. After uninstalling all libraries related to mir, everything works smoothly again. (Keyboard lag was also resolved by that, which is not a part of this bugreport).

This report should be kept open (perhaps re-assigned to mir) until it is resolved properly, though.

Same issue, but with the server process dying.

Thanks Václav for your work-around; that worked a treat (and fixed the keyboard lag, too ;}).
