Synaptic 0.53.4 - window freaks out when selecting a package with mouse

Bug #8550 reported by Shawn Hansen on 2004-09-26
Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone
synaptic (Ubuntu)

Bug Description

The latest synaptic in main is not functioning correctly for me. Whenever I try
to select a package in the package window frame, the window freaks out (it
'jitters back and forth'), for lack of a better way to describe it. This only
happens if I start synaptic from the gnome menu. If I start it from a terminal,
it doesn't happen, so unfortunately, I can't get any feedback on this bug from
the terminal.

Thanks for your bugreport.

Can you please check if increasing the size of the synaptic window helps? Do you
run it in a pretty small window?

Can you send me your /root/.synaptic/synaptic.conf file? This will make
debugging easier for me.

Resizing the window to a larger size did the trick. The synaptic does not
freak out at the larger size. Prior to resizing the window, I was running it
at the default size (I had not resized it before now). I have attached the
file you requested, be advised that this file probably reflects the new size of
the window.

I hope this is fixed by the version at:

It would be great if you could test it.

  * various fixes:
    - #1807, #2004: work around a libglade problem that can
cause a infinite loop in libglade
    - #1817: patial fixed the help by adding the supported icon
             to the icon-legend panel
    - #1441: fixed by moving to 0.53.4
  * sorting the "supported" column is possible now
