Bug Description

Binary package hint: synaptic

Recent Update-Manager of 10.04 Lucid kernel .xxxxx.32.31 on 2011-04-21. Reboot and straight to synaptic to check installation of wine-gecko and crash occurs when 'wine' is entered into the search box (followed by [Enter].

The most recent update of the database manager (as it was changed from MySQL to PostgreSQL some months ago in favour of Evolution) on 03/May/2011 now allows Synaptic to load and display "Re-indexing package list" as first post update run. Synaptic remains stable until entering anything into the filter dialogue. Scrolling down the package list is now possible as is applying any changes. Indexing is currently switched off. Only core MySQL files are currently loaded.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.
