Bug Description

System Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager should be renamed to something
like "Package Management" so it fits in better with the rest of the menu.

It seems to fit the <app name> <function> scheme used by applications, rather
than the gnome-system-tools scheme of just <function>. Assigning to Jeff for
comment.

The inconsistency is annoying, but changing it will affect translations, which
is something we'd like to avoid as much as possible in this release. Can we find
an existing translation elsewhere? Should we bother for now?

Also, it is fairly likely that we will have other options for "package
management" (though certainly not described as such) in the future, such as the
easy add/remove 'wizard' and so on. Perhaps Synaptic should just end up being an
"Advanced" button in that (or something, I'm just pulling ideas out of my arse
here, don't base any sensible thought on them without serious consideration).

Change the menu entry of Synaptic to "Software"

I would suggest to rename Synaptic to "Software" to be consistent with
"Networking" or "Users and Groups". Furthermore I think that the word "Software"
is well known in many languages. So having an "untranslated" menu entry won't be
so harmful.

Another option could be "Software Packages". This would already introduce the
term "package" in the menu.

Since I am also involved in the development of Synaptic we could offer to add a
placeholder string "Software" so that the patched desktop file in Ubuntu will be
translated correctly and automatically.

Hi, I think "Software" doesn't really make the task clear enough. We're actually
going to have a different add/remove software component in HoaryHedgehog, which
will have a button for Synaptic in it, so there will not be a Synaptic menu
entry at all. :-)

It might be worth closing this bug given that we're so close to release, we
don't want to wreck translations, and this will be replaced in HoaryHedgehog anyway.

But thank you, sorry this was not made clear earlier.
