Bug Description
Binary package hint: synaptic
Houston, we have a problem ! ;-)
Because there is a problem with the version of Sylpheed (my e-mail client) in Edgy (version 2.2.7), I decided to DOWNgrade it to the version from Dapper (version 2.2.4). The problem is that now, the update-notifier keeps showing me the red icon in the gnome-panel, because of course it would like to upgrade to back ! Fair enough. So, in Synpatic, I clicked on the Sylpheed package and in the menu I selected Package->Lock Version, so that hopefully update-notifer understands that I don't want to upgrade/update it. The problem is that this feature doesn't seem to work anymore ! :-O If I (try to!) lock a package, the check box in the menu doesn't get ticked, and there is no "on hold" section in the left pane. Basically it doesn't work anymore... :-/
