Sometimes synaptic greys out for a minute. This seems connected to use of the quick search function.

Can you provide an example of what you have typed in the quick search when the freeze happens please?

I am sorry to say that I do not have good information about this bug at this time. I do not remember exactly what was in the search box. Something like "kdenlive" or "openshot". Maybe from newly added ppas.
I have seen this bug last year a lot on another computer, where it seems gone now. On this one the last sighting was about a month before that. I see no pattern.
