Y can not read video from my desktop or other file

Setting Video/Output Modules to X11 Video Ouput allows the player to start up OK.

@gliptak, seems like this is a vlc problem and not synaptic. Anyway, did you solved your problem after you made this config update?

Not a VLC bug. That said, you can work it around from VLC by changing the configuration. Also VLC 1.1 will automatically fail safe if the XVideo driver is broken like that.
