Bug Description

Binary package hint: synaptic

I happened to have to instal the package liggtk2.0-dev (to compile some gnome app from source).
When I right-cliekd on the package to mark it for installation, Synaptic hangs, using 100% of one CPU (I assume it's not multi-threaded), for what seems like eternity, maybe 30+ seconds, at first I thought Synpatic had crashed, I was about to kill it but decided to give it some more time and ohhhh, it recovered.
Once the pacakges have been downloaded and installed, Synaptic AGAIN hangs for long enough to fool people into thinking it is crashed for good.
This is on a one year old computer (2.6GHz Core2duo + 6GB of RAM), so it was quite unexpected. Ok, this package happens to have 52 dependencies that needed to be installed with it, but still, even on my previous computer which was 10 times slower (1.5 GHz Athlon XP with 512 MB of RAM), even such pacakges didn't take anywhere near as long to handle.

Thanks for your report.

I can't reproduce it with the latest release and the package you mentioned. Is it still an issue for you ?

This particular package doesn't appear to cause problems anymore... no idea why it hung before !

Let's close the bug then.. I will reopen it later if needed...
