Bug Description

i am having a problem with synaptic package manager in jaunty when i try to find the fastest server for downloads. when i click on settings>repositories>download from other>select best server, the app locks up (greys out) and i am forced to use "force quit" on it. i have screenshots of my problem and a terminal output if that helps:

lou@lou-laptop:~$ sudo synaptic
synaptic: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.0.
lou@lou-laptop:~$

this terminal output happens after i force the app to quit.

i can also manually ping some of the addresses i know to be searched by the tool and they work fine.

for example if i ping the address ftp.riken.jp i get:

lou@lou-laptop:~$ ping ftp.riken.jp
PING riksun.riken.go.jp (134.160.38.1) 56(84) bytes of data.

rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 262.431/267.718/274.675/4.397 ms
lou@lou-laptop:~$

if i wait for the app to "fix itself" (like one would do if a program is simply unresponsive) it stays locked up.

As I experienced the same bug, I tryed to get the Information you need. But I'm not very sure it will be Ok cause synaptic seems to throw another process. And that one is the one that hangs.

Let me know if you need me to do something.

Best regards.

No problem here in lucid, tried invoking software-properties-gtk by itself and through synaptic.

My assumption than is that this bug has been fixed between jaunty and lucid.
