Bug Description

Binary package hint: synaptic

Ubuntu jaunty (development branch) Release: 9.04

The problem concerns searching in Synaptic Package Manager in Jaunty

When I try to use the Quick Search I am not able to find anything.
The Search function works a bit better.

It is not possible to find Midnight Commander by typing "mc" for example.

Thanks for your bugreport.

Could you please try to run (in a terminal):
$ sudo update-apt-xapian-index
and reopen synpatic please? Does that help?

Changed in synaptic (Ubuntu):
assignee: nobody → mvo
status: New → Incomplete

Hi,

Seems that the problem has been solved in subsequent updates and patches on the Alpha 6 and Beta releases.
Thank you for taking your time to respond.

I was having a similar problem on UNR 9.04 beta, after adding the medibuntu repo and updating the the indexes the new packages would not appear in synaptic, I could however install them with apt-get

I ran sudo update-apt-xapian-index and now the packages appear correctly

Guess we can just mark it as a duplicate then?

It still is essential that its fixed, as i read in the duplicate it
seems to be resolved,
but we should keep an eye open.

sudo update-apt-xapian-index should run when the newly installed system
starts synaptic for the first time without intervention,
as this is to late for some ( that use an older version ), the bug
should remain open for ever, with mention of the fix and maybe an
reverence to the fact that updating your synaptic package also fixes the
bug. ( dont know if that is true, so please comment on that.
