Bug Description

Binary package hint: synaptic

The Synaptic Package Manager's (version 0.62.1ubuntu9) "Quick search" doesn't appear to support hyphens. As many package names contain hyphens, this issue is a bit troublesome.

For example:
User wants to remove package "totem-gstreamer"
Search results are refined as user types package name into "Quick search" box
If only "totem" is entered, all packages with "totem" in the package name and/or description are shown.
However, once a hyphen is added, "totem-" the search results vanish.
Typing the hyphenated package name in its entirety, "totem-gstreamer" produces no results.

Perhaps the "Quick search" is only searching package descriptions, for none of the descriptions which show up under the "Quick search" result of "totem" have an hyphens (totem-).

On the contrary, 282995 (and 284188) is a duplicate of this one, considering it was submitted several days earlier.

That's irrelevant. I'd already found and triaged the other bug report first.
