Bug Description
It's a minor bug and I managed to solve the problem just a second ago, but it
certainly had me stumped for a while.
I was trying to add a custom repository to Synaptic. I wanted to copy/paste the
APT line from my browser, so I switched to that, did the copy and then switched
back to Synaptic through the window list. But that simply showed me the
'Software Preferences' window with my current repositories listed.
The window where I needed to paste the APT line just wasn't visible anywhere:
not in the window list, not in the alt-tab list and not on my screen either.
Moreover, none of the Synaptic windows were responding (obviously because the
dialog windoz was still open and awaiting input), which left me rather stranded
and thinking I'd need to reboot. I managed to find the dialog window by
right-clicking on the 'Software Preferences' window title, selecting 'On top'
and then moving that window out of the way, revealing the dialog window hidden
behind it.
Another method I found that worked when I tried to replicate the bug was
minimizing all open windows until the dialog window appeared.
I feel these are both needlessly difficult ways of resolving the problem.
Listing the dialog window in alt-tab, in the window list or even making sure
that it remains on top of the repositories list would make a lot more sense.
Thanks for your bugreport.
This problem should be fixed in dapper (I can no longer reproduce it). Please confirm and reopen the bug if you still can reproduce it.
Thanks,
Michael
