Bug Description

I did an update and one package could not be downloaded. I got the following
error message:

Titlebar: Warning

Text: The following problems have occurred on your system:

Textbox (with unneeded, non-functional scrollbars):
W: Kan
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/e/epydoc/python2.4-epydoc_2.1-9ubuntu1_all.deb
niet ophalen
  404 Not Found

And that is after I was already asked if I wanted to continue because a package
could not be downloaded.

It could be just: Epydoc could not be installed because of problems downloading
it. (maybe with a little arrow with details, just like during downloading and
installing.)

Thanks for your bugreport.

I assume:
"W: Kan
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/e/epydoc/python2.4-epydoc_2.1-9ubuntu1_all.deb
niet ophalen 404 Not Found"

means (in your locale) that it can't download the package?

I agree that a better error message would be good.

Cheers,
 Michael

I see this bug hasn't been touched in quite a while, is this still an issue in a recent release of Ubuntu?

Yes, synaptic still seems to display error messages straight from apt in a non userfriendly way.

This is a pretty old bug report. comment #6 says it was still an issue in 11.04, and I was wondering if anyone could confirm whether or not it's still with us in 12.10.
