Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make Ubuntu better. Please note that filing bugs against 'Launchpad' for issues relating to your Ubuntu installation will seldom help in resolving your issue.

It seems that you are not using a software package provided by the official Ubuntu repositories. Because of this the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug. Please report this bug to the provider of the software package, i.e. Google.

However, do you see this issue when using any other package that you have downloaded from the Ubuntu repositories (officially provided snap applications such as Chromium are also valid/applicable)? You say "any browser" but which?

I also had the problem that the buttons in the upper right corner did not always work when the window was maximized.

This affected Synaptic and gParted as well as Chrome.

The problem was caused by Anydesk displaying its icon in the systray. This caused the topbar area to be enlarged, but this was not visible.

After quitting anydesk and a relog the buttons work again.

This seems to be a duplicate of bug 2012388 but the reporter (Daniel M) has not stated that AnyDesk is being used.

@Daniel M are you using AnyDesk?

@MB Please take a look at bug 2012388 and its many duplicates.

I'm changing the status of the gparted and synaptic tasks to 'Incomplete' for now as I don't think that those applications are at fault and need fixing.

Changed in gparted (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete
Changed in synaptic (Ubuntu):
