Bug Description

Premise: the most important thing that people want to see are the packages being
changed.
Premise 2: There are a lot of buttons that don't need to be there

Thus, some changes are needed:

1. Get rid of the "show changes button" - see 2 for better option
2. Expand the list by default, with a dialog more like that the update manager,
showing the program to be installed/removed/updated and teh version number
3. Beside the headings install/upgrade/remove, show the correct icon, to
visually reinforce what is happening
4. Reword the the top section to "Software changes" or something similar

Corey, do you still want to pursue this bug? We have gnome-app-install now, and I think some interface changes have been made to Synaptic since 2005...

The Synaptic interface still would need some love. So please keep it open. I would like to donate some time for feisty+1.
