Bug Description

After adding PPA ppa:deluge-team/develop forcing the 1.x version of `deluge-gtk` when the 2.x version is installed has no effect, only `Failed to SetCandidateRelease for zesty` is printed to console which provides no information and can't be spotted without looking at the terminal. No matter whether this kind of downgrading is supported (it might not because it involves a PPA) there has to be feedback given to the user.

The way to downgrade package(s) from a ppa is to use ppa-purge to avoid cross/circular dependency issue a user can met with the method you have selected.

I guess so. I just want to make sure that it's understand that this issue is about the insufficient/inexisting feedback. The user shouldn't think about the system state.

Therefore I also don't understand the change of the status to Incomplete.

Well, sadly synaptic has been quite deprecated since a while, and then is not actively maintained (to be soft). Update-manager has been prefered by Ubuntu (which is more eyecandy but less informative to my POV).

That said, howto/wiki always recommend to use ppa-purge to deal with ppa removal/conflict.
So i've set 'incomplete' to let you know about that. You think that synaptic/apt might be the perfect IA apps, they are in many ways, but ppa's upgrades are not genuine packages per se and so synaptic cant be blamed when these ppa does not package their apps to communicate with it !!!

That it, set that report as 'invalid' as you now know the details.

Changed in synaptic (Ubuntu):
status: Incomplete → Invalid
