Can also be seen if opening software & updates (repositories) thru synaptic. If a window is scrolable (for instance 'other'), acting on an entry at bottom will result in window moving back to the top.
Not seen when opening software & updates directly

I'm not sure when exactly this behavior changed but in Precise if I open synaptic, type 'mozilla-plugin' into the Quick filter, scroll down to 'firefox-launchpad-plugin', and mark it for installation (or removal if installed) that window retains it's position. But in Trusty if I follow the same process that window springs back to the top after marking 'firefox-launchpad-plugin'.

It would be interesting to know if this behavior effects any other apps.

I checked a fully updated Saucy and the behavior was still as it was in Precise so it apparently changed in Trusty.

According to the maintainer's comment on Debian bug tracker, this should be fixed in 0.81.
The question is whether it will get in Trusty before the release.
