restricted drivers manager can't connect thru proxy with authentication

Binary package hint: restricted-manager

I regularly connect to a network that has an HTTP proxy which requires authentication. After configuring the proxy URL and username/password in System->Preferences->Network Proxy, Update Manager works, as does apt-get at the command line, but Restricted Drivers Manager does not. I am given an error dialog to the effect of "407: proxy requires authentication".
