Bug Description

Sweethome3D 5.x 32/64 bit crashes in Ubuntu 16.04 64-Bit with following error.

----------------------------
Java 3D: implicit antialiasing enabled

(java:7234): GConf-WARNING **: Client failed to connect to the D-BUS daemon:
Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.
GConf Error: No D-BUS daemon running
----------------------------

I am getting the above error when installing from "Ubuntu Software" as well as from downloaded version from www.sweethome3d.com.

I found the solution.

Sweethome3D 5.2 64 bit works in Ubuntu 16.04 64-Bit after installing the nvidia graphics driver.

This bug is SOLVED.

Thank you,
Mashathung

Can you plz explain which package I should install? I have a ATI/ Radeon video card. I am pretty sure I cannot install any nvidia package.

Thank you

I went "Additional Drivers" and installed the driver for Nvidia graphics card from the given list as shown in the attached image.

The bug is NOT solved. Not every one has NVidia driver at his system. The solution you suggest may work only for Nvidia or may works only for some models of Nvidia cards.

It definitely does not work for ATI/ Radeon video cards.

Thank you for your time,

In general, the problem might get resolved by installing proper graphics driver from "Additional driver". I do not have system with ATI/radeon card, so you can give a try tell the result.

The bug is there. Sweethome crashes as soon as it starts up.

Mashathung, there is no additional drivers for ATI / Radeon video cards since there is no more proprietary drivers supported for Ubuntu 16.04 (Catalyst has been removed from Ubuntu scope....).
ATI cards are now supported in Ubuntu by the default "radeon" driver, which is a realy poor quality public driver, I think this is why Java 3D is crashing....

I really fear there is no hope to open SH3D, until the release of the AMDGPU open source driver, maybe this year ????
That is so sad that Ubuntu community decided to remove Catalyst.... it was working well...

ATI don't support this video card only open-source drivers.

P.S. in Ubuntu 15.10 x64 with open-source driver Sweethome 3d works OK.

Seeing the same SIGSEGV on trying to start SweetHome3D here.

As a Radeon HD 4200 user a working Catalyst driver would be no solution for me either, as AMD decided to no longer support these chips.

Bug #1454774 seems to be very related.

Hi, I'm not experienced at analysing such a problem, however from the descriptions here in a similar thread Bug#1576076, I do have the same unresolved issue as described in both bug reports. Sweet Home 3D loads briefly, then crashes, completely unusable. I'm running, according to Sysinfo, Radeon HD 5000/6000/7350/8350 Series graphics card using the Gallium 0.4 on AMD Cedar (DRM 2.43.0, LLVM 3.8.0) on Ubuntu 16.04 64-bit. One of the crashes was detected, I sent of the report & it related to a Java issue. Can anyone tell me if there is any kind of work around for this issue as yet please? Thanks.

My last comment seems to be incorrect as it's working now.

I did in the meantime download the latest version from the upstream website, extracted it and ran it.
It was still running when the repo version started successfully.
This information however is likely irrelevant

Description: Interior 2D design application with 3D preview
Sweet Home 3D is an interior design Java application for
quickly choosing and placing furniture on a house 2D plan
drawn by the end-user, with a 3D preview.

Homepage: http://www.sweethome3d.com/

I tested with Ubuntu 14 / 16 (both virtual Machines) and Debian 8 Jessie (Intel NUC i5).
Also the latest version from sweethome3d.com crashes. Seems to be a graphic driver problem.
